How to Size a Chandelier for High Ceilings

How to Size a Chandelier for High Ceilings | Maison Loucelle

Why chandelier sizing matters more than style

An undersized chandelier disappears. An oversized one oppresses. Proportional sizing is the foundation of every successful installation.

The ceiling height formula

Standard rule: ceiling height in feet times 2.5 to 3 inches for fixture height. 20-foot ceiling = 50-60 inch chandelier.

Adapting for hospitality spaces

Double-height lobbies may need fixtures 6 to 8 feet tall. Maison Loucelle designs custom chandeliers scaled precisely for each project .

Clearance rules

7 feet minimum in walkways. 30-36 inches above dining tables. Second-floor alignment in two-story foyers.

Visual weight versus physical weight

An open-frame brass chandelier may weigh 30 kg but appear delicate. A solid glass pendant weighing 5 kg can look massive. Consider both.

There is no such thing as a chandelier that is too big. There are only chandeliers hung at the wrong height.
